Marilyn J. Goldstein, M.D.
Marilyn J. Goldstein, M.D.

Dr. Goldstein joined BAS in 1998. She received her medical degree from the Indiana University School of Medicine, Indianapolis, IN, in 1988. She completed her transitional internship and residency in anesthesiology at the North Carolina Baptist Hospital, Bowman Gray School of Medicine in Winston-Salem, NC. She held the position of Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology at the Bowman Gray School of Medicine and has published a chapter in a textbook as well as journal articles. Dr. Goldstein's clinical interest is obstetrical anesthesia. She has served as the Chairman of the Anesthesia Section at BRMC and is a current member of the Physician Health and Wellness Board as well as the Surgical Case/Transfusion Review Committee. Dr. Goldstein is Board Certified by the American Board of Anesthesiology. She is also Board Certified in Basic Perioperative Transesophageal Echocardiography by the National Board of Echocardiography.

 

Stefan J. Grenvik, M.D.
Stefan J. Grenvik, M.D.

Dr. Grenvik joined BAS in 1993. He received his medical degree from the University of Pittsburgh in 1989. He completed his internship and residency at the Mercy Hospital of Pittsburgh. Dr. Grenvik's clinical interest is cardiac anesthesia. Dr. Grenvik has previously served as the chairman of the Anesthesia Section of BRMC and Secretary/Treasurer of the Medical Staff and is a current member of the BRMC Trauma Committee. He is Board Certified by the American Board of Anesthesiology.

 

Jonathan R. Hughes, M.D.
Jonathan R. Hughes, M.D.

Dr. Hughes joined BAS in July 2012 after completing his Cardiothoracic Anesthesiology Fellowship at Wake Forest University in Winston Salem, NC. He completed his residency in Anesthesiology at the University of Alabama, Birmingham in June 2011. Dr. Hughes is Board Certified through the American Board of Anesthesiology and Board Certified in Advanced Perioperative Transesophageal Echocardiography by the National Board of Echocardiography.

 

J. Lawrence Jayne, Jr., M.D.
J. Lawrence Jayne, Jr., M.D.

Dr. Jayne joined BAS in 1981. He received his medical degree from the University of Tennessee College of Medicine in Memphis. He completed an internship and residency from 1973 to 1977 at Naval Regional Medical Center, Philadelphia. He completed his military service at N.R.M.C., Memphis from 1977 to 1981. Dr. Jayne previously served as President of the Tennessee Society of Anesthesiologists and the Sullivan County Medical Society. He has previously served as Medical Director at Bristol Surgery Center; currently he is Chairman of the BSC Quality Assurance Committee. He serves on the Infection Control Committee at BRMC and BSC as well as the Critical Care Committee at the hospital. Dr. Jayne is Board Certified by the American Board of Anesthesiology.

 

Meredith M. Kirkpatrick, M.D.

Dr. Kirkpatrick joined BAS in 2009. She completed medical school at The University of Alabama at Birmingham in 2005. She completed an internship with Baptist Health System in Birmingham, Alabama, followed by an Anesthesiology residency at the University of Alabama at Birmingham in 2009. Dr. Kirkpatrick is a member of the BRMC Women's and Children's Section and is board certified with The American Board of Anesthesiology.

 

Michael A. Long, M.D.
Michael A. Long, M.D.

Dr. Long joined BAS in 2012. After serving in the U.S. Navy, he earned his Doctorate of Medicine from East Carolina University in Greenville, NC in May 2008.  Dr. Long completed his Anesthesiology residency at the University of Alabama in Birmingham, AL in June 2012. He is board certified thru the American Board of Anesthesiology and has passed the Advanced PTE exam thru the National Board of Echocardiography(2014). Special interests include ultrasound-guided regional anesthesia, transesophageal echocardiography, and medical simulation education.

Robert I. Macfarlane, M.D.

Dr. Macfarlane joined BAS in 2007. He completed Medical School at Saba University. He completed a combined Internship and Anesthesiology residency at University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2007. Dr. Macfarlane has served as Chairman of the Anesthesia Section at Bristol Regional Medical Center and is currently a member of the Physician Satisfaction, Physician Technology. He is board Certified by the American Board of Anesthesiology.

 

Timothy E. Mercer, M.D.
Timothy E. Mercer, M.D.

Dr. Mercer joined BAS in 2006. He received his medical degree from Loma Linda University in 1985. He completed an integrated anesthesiology residency at Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio. Dr. Mercer is a member of the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee and is board Certified by the American Board of Anesthesiology.

Dr. Nounou joined BAS in 2009. He completed medical school at The University of Cincinnati, College of Medicine in 2004. He completed a surgical internship at Good Samaritan Hospital, Cincinnati, and completed his Anesthesiology residency at the University of Texas Health Science Center, San Antonio in 2009. Dr. Nounou is board certified with The American Board of Anesthesiology and has previously served as Chairman of the Anesthesia Section at Bristol Regional Medical Center.

Dr. Schuetz joined BAS in 2008. She received her medical degree in 2001 from the University of South Florida. She completed a surgical internship and anesthesiology residency at University of Pittsburgh Medical Center in 2006 and is a member of the BRMC Women's and Children's Section. Dr. Schuetz is board certified by The American Board of Anesthesiology.

 

William D. Smith, M.D.
William D. Smith, M.D.

Dr. Smith joined BAS in 1986. He received his medical degree from West Virginia School of Medicine. He completed his internship and residency at West Virginia University Medical Center. He also completed a fellowship in Pain Management and Cardiovascular Anesthesia at WVU and West Penn Hospital in Pittsburgh. Dr. Smith's clinical interest is cardiovascular anesthesia. Dr. Smith is past-president of the Sullivan County Medical Society and is past chairman of the Department of Surgery. He served on BRMC Board of Directors and on the Board Executive Committee. Dr. Smith also served as Chief of the Medical Staff for Bristol Regional Medical Center in 2009-2010 and is currently the BRMC medical staff representative to the Wellmont Health System Board of Directors. He holds primary Board Certification from the American Board of Anesthesiology and is also Board Certified by the American Board of Anesthesiology in Pain Medicine. He is Board Certified in Advanced Perioperative Transesophageal Echocardiography by the National Board of Echocardiography.
